How to Prepare

In order to make the most of your advising appointment, we highly recommend preparing ahead of time Here is a short list of things you can do to make the most of your time with your advisor:

    • Take a look at the Undergraduate Catalog. You may want to pay special attention to degree requirements for majors you're thinking about pursuing. Make sure to bring your catalog with you to your advising appointment.
    • Review the Progress Towards My Degree link in the iCampus portal. This channel gives you a detailed breakdown of graduation, general education, and declared major requirements to help you better understand how your previous, current, and future coursework fits into your academic plan.
    • Come up with a list of questions and goals you'd like to accomplish in your appointment.
    • If you've yet to decide on a major, visit the the Find Your Major web site and complete some of the activities there.
    • Ensure you've had all your transcripts sent to Illinois State, whether it’s community college credit, or AP scores. Keeping your records up to date will make sure we know exactly what you need to complete your degree.
