What do students have to say about First Year LinC?

Why should I register for First Year LinC?

Getting involved and knowing where important resources are play a big part in being success your first year on campus. First Year LinC is a quick way to develop both. The small groups, hands-on activities, and cooperative learning among friends form strong bonds among the group's members, a support group that you can rely on throughout your first year. The fact that the activities also provide you with important information how to study, when to study, how to organize your time, is just icing on the cake.

Individualized instruction in a small seminar designed to introduce students to the University community and its resources, help students acquire academic skills necessary for success at Illinois State, and explore potential major and career goals.

First Year LinC is open to any incoming first year students, excluding Honors students (who participate in a similar program).

The program is designed to:

  • assist students in their transition to the university
  • provide individualized instruction in a small seminar
  • introduce students to the University and its resources
  • help students understand what it means to be civically engaged
  • help students explore potential majors and career goals
  • help students acquire academic skills necessary for success at Illinois State, including
    • test taking strategies
    • critical thinking skills
    • time management
