Student Support Services (SSS) assists students by monitoring academic progress and providing information and assistance with educational and career concerns. Some of the specific, on-going services available to program participants are:
Our advisors provide pre-registration advisement, drop/add counseling, referrals for tutoring and other areas, assistance in selecting a major, and assistance in developing realistic schedules and course loads.
Advisors are available to help you understand and cope with the challenges students face in college. They help participants transition to college; assist in major and career selection; and provide assistance in identifying internship, employment, and study abroad opportunities that will enhance student experiences.
We monitor the academic progress of all participants, and provide intrusive advisement to help students successfully persist in their programs of study.
We assist in researching programs and institutions; helping students prepare for admission tests; and identifying opportunities to attend pertinent conferences and forums.
Our office may sponsor student attendance to various State and Regional leadership conferences.
Throughout the semester, workshops are offered to enhance the academic and personal growth of students in the program. These workshops may include financial aid, motivation, time management, study skills, law and graduate school preparation, and test-taking skills strategies.
Our staff can assist in completing financial aid and scholarship applications; and determine and share resources.
Student Support Services assists students in exploring the world beyond classroom walls by arranging excursions to cultural and educational events or activities. Past experiences have included Mexican Fine Arts Museum, DeSable Museum of African-American History, Les Miserables at the Fox Theatre, Illinois State Theatre Productions, Medieval Times, and trips to St. Louis, New Orleans, Colorado Springs, and Washington D.C.
Our transfer students assist new program transfer students with their transition to Illinois State University.
We also assist in identifying additional campus resources that assist in our students' success.
