Additional Support

Sometimes the number of services available to students at a university can seem overwhelming, especially for first-year students. One of the functions of the Minority Student Academic Center is to serve as a resource for students looking for opportunities and services on and off campus. The following links provide information on some of the services available at Illinois State University.  Students interested in additional information should consult with a member of the MSAC staff.

University College fosters student success and retention by providing comprehensive academic support services and facilitating student transitions.

Student Support Services (SSS) provides an array of services for first generation and/or low income students. SSS helps its participants overcome class, social, academic, and cultural barriers to higher education.

Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP)supports and  facilitates achievement, graduation, and career selection for minority students in science, mathematics, engineering technology, and teacher education in those fields through faculty mentoring, student research conferences, workshops, career exploration, academic support, and socials.

First Year Minority Mentorship Program: MSAC works collaboratively with the Diversity Advocacy, Dean of Students to provide a component of academic reinforcement to the Minority Academic Scholar Achievement Initiative.  The MASAI Program pairs first-year (under-represented) students with upperclassmen who serve as mentors serving as role models by providing assistance with academic work, motivating first year students to get involved in the campus community and organizations, and providing information on campus resources.

Student Counseling Services assists students in acquiring those values, attitudes, skills, and experiences which will enable them to maximize their opportunity for life-long academic, career, and personal development.

Student Employment assists students and alumni in exploring satisfying career opportunities that fit their talents, interests and goals.

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) for students interested in becoming involved in clubs (social, academic, ethnic, etc.) or Greek organizations.
