Illinois State Preview

What is Preview?

Students come to Illinois State University from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Preview provides students the opportunity to interact with their peers and begin building relationships as they make the adjustment to life at Illinois State.

While attending Preview, students will have the opportunity to meet with their academic advisor, register for classes, meet current Illinois State students and their future classmates, interact with faculty and staff from various academic departments, and receive their Redbird ID card. In addition, students will have the chance to discover the various opportunities provided at Illinois State including involvement in student organizations, volunteer opportunities, support services, and many other aspects of being a Redbird.

Watch Out for Construction

When we welcome you to Illinois State this summer for Preview, you’ll get an inside look at improvements we’re making to our campus. By that, we mean you’ll be doing a lot of walking around and through construction zones.

  • Be prepared. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. We can’t emphasize enough: you will be doing a lot of walking! Also, be sure to think about the needs of the guests you are bringing with you.
  • Arrive early. It may take longer than you think to navigate areas under construction on and around campus. Be sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get here and check in.
  • Pay attention. Your safety is our number one priority. We try to keep our construction areas clearly marked with signs and orange fences, but you must watch where you are going.
  • Listen to your guide. Your Preview guide will help you get from place to place. Please follow their directions. They know the fastest, safest ways to get around campus.

Appreciate the Improvements

The new Student Fitness and Kinesiology/Recreation Center slated to open in fall of 2010 will be well worth the wait and the inconvenience.

The center will feature:

  • Basketball courts,
  • An indoor track,
  • Racquetball courts,
  • Aerobics spaces, and
  • A climbing wall.

Everyone on campus is excited for the center to open. We’re even watching the construction online. Learn more about the project on the Facilities Planning web site.

Orientation for Transfer Students

Illinois State's Transfer Registration Program allows incoming transfer students to meet with their academic advisor, register for classes, obtain a Redbird Card (student ID) and experience some of the other services available to Illinois State students.
