Graduate Assistant Job Description

The University Center for Learning Assistance (UCLA), a component of University College, is the University’s primary tutoring facility.  Under the guidance of its professional staff, its Graduate Assistants share general responsibility for planning and monitoring UCLA activities and specific responsibilities for the training and supervision of graduate and undergraduate tutors. The UCLA offers tutoring for various General Education courses, writing, and study skills.

Duties:

  • Assist with training and supervising tutors.
  • Work with the Coordinator to design training lessons for tutors.
  • Design and conduct workshops on learning and study skills.
  • Participate in the evaluation of staff and programs.
  • Other duties which assist with the promotion and smooth operation of the UCLA.
     

Eligibility:

  • Acceptance into a degree-granting graduate program.
  • 3.0 GPA in graduate work or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
  • Interest in working with learning and with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Hours:

20 hours per week.  Some evening hours required.

Salary:

Tuition waiver and stipend of $760/mo.
